Even Bush's HIV prevention initiative had a disturbing religious aspect to it. From a New York Times article:

The latest bout of reproductive-health madness came in the last couple of weeks when the U.S. Agency for International Development ordered six African countries to ensure that no U.S.-financed condoms, birth control pills, I.U.D.’s or other contraceptives are furnished to Marie Stopes International, a British-based aid group that operates clinics in poor countries.

Hmm, sound familiar?

They consistently worm their way in as bringers of food and assistance to form little fucked up fundie outposts they proudly mark on maps back here in the States with pushpins.

Yeah, just what starving and war torn countries need: more children they can't possibly support, homophobia, and fewer condoms. Let's keep those ladies knocked up with their nose in a Bible because it makes Jesus happy.

It's like promoting stray cats to have more doomed kittens.

Evangelicals have no choice, they just gotta spread bigotry and hatred in the name of Jesus Christ, it is simply their nature, and demanded of them by their interpretation of the scripture.

While they might say they worship Christ they ignore pretty much everything he ever said and instead organize their beliefs around the teachings of Paul. When Paul can't justify their thinly veiled hatred and bigotry towards those that do not think exactly as they do then they look back to Leviticus to find an excuse.

Never mind that the "New Covenant" supposedly meant that Christians were no longer obligated to follow the Old Testament Law, but rather should instead follow the teachings of Christ.

They constantly re-invent their religion to suit their own biases and bigotry and then have the nerve to call those that question them heretics? (or at least "Not a true Believer"). They go back into the Old Testament scripture simply to pick and choose one proscription here or there that suits their needs to support their bigotry while willfully ignoring those that proceeded and followed the one they chose to quote?

Sorry but they are NOT actually Christians, to be a Christian is to strive to be Christ like, to try to live a life shaped by and in the image and teachings of Christ. These people worship the scripture as written by Paul far more than do the actual Gospel.

They are the ones entangling the church in petty and worldly political argument, bringing it into conflict with government, science, and simple common sense. Day by day getting ever closer to simply stating that man does not need reason or knowledge to survive, only blind faith in their deeply and tragically perverted interpretation of Jesus's words and Gods plan for us.

Yet they blame "liberal" churches and "liberal" teachings for the decline of the church? Hahahahaha, damn but these people are absolutely clueless aren't they? When the Church becomes a political entity and is willing to endorse fallible humans as their choice? When the scripture you make your children study contradicts the way you interpret it for them? When you use personal religious belief as a stick to beat others with because they cannot measure up to your personal sense of "holiness?" When you openly advocate the shunning and psychological brutalization of someone, and in some cases even their death, because they are a homosexual?

How about?... Now please just consider this, people are either leaving or never finding their way to the church in the first place because so many of us no longer openly share the love that Christ admonished us to show our neighbor? Because we no longer preach the simple gospel? Because too many narrow minded people are allowed to speak in the media as the representatives of the Christian church? Because we are seen by far too many of the younger generation as greedy and grasping, self-centered and hypocritical, conniving and unauthentic?

Just something to think about, I hope...
